If you like your island holidays to be laid-back and friendly, Tobago is the place for you. Its 50,000 inhabitants are proud of their home and enjoy showing it off to visitors – so make sure you take some time to “lime” – or hang out - with them. And where else can you enjoy goat racing?! *
The Villa is just 15 minutes from Crown Point airport and within easy reach of many of Tobago’s finest beaches, restaurants and woodland – Grafton Nature Reserve is next door, and three of the best restaurants within a three minute drive.
There is so much to see on the island, renting a car is a must, but a 5 to 10 minute walk takes you to the local facilities – grocery store, restaurant, bar, pizza place, cash machine, and of course, the beach.
The easiest way to explore is by car - pack up the cool box and head for one of the many beautiful beaches. One of the best is just down the hill at Stonehaven Bay. Some days the surf can be quite high - excellent for body boarding. And you may get to see the village fishermen “pulling seine” - hauling in the day’s catch.
Tobago offers game fishing, wind-surfing, sailing and fantastic scuba diving or snorkeling. Its unspoiled coral reefs and gardens include the biggest brain coral in the Caribbean and support a vast range of sea-life – including the giant Leatherback Turtles who nest on local beaches.
More advanced divers will love Tobago’s drift diving and can tackle the wreck of M/V Maverick, a former passenger ferry sunk as a dive site in 1997. There are many well-run dive shops, the nearest Adventure Eco Divers, is based on Stonehaven Bay.
Tobago’s Main Ridge Forest Reserve has been protected for over two hundred years and is and award-winning Eco Tourism destination. Enjoy mountain bike trails and guided walks in lush tropical forests full of exotic birds, wildlife and waterfalls. There are two 18-hole courses – one just a five minute drive from the villa, as well as two small riding stables close by.
